Using the WorkNet Model of Career Development and Job Placement for People with Barriers, the focus is not merely job placement and retention, but long-term, sustainable economic self-sufficiency, career success and satisfaction.

The goal of City Help’s employment program, “City Works”, is to help individuals become independent and self-sufficient members of the community.

Job Readiness

The WorkNet program is structured to move candidates through preparation, placement and career success. Courses are designed to increase self-confidence and employability. Classes help clients to identify career goals, explore career paths, as well as identify and overcome barriers that could prevent them from becoming employed.

Clients will learn how to develop an effective job search strategy, resume writing, interview preparation, interview follow-up. Candidates will also receive on-going support for job retention, and success and advancement.

Job Search

Clients work closely with a case manager to create an employment plan. Clients may access phones and fax machines to communicate with potential employers, use computers to prepare resumes and cover letters, and schedule time for mock interviews. Referrals to child care, housing and healthcare services are provided as needed.

Employment

Our recent partnership with Hollywood WorkSource, a division of WorkSource California, has allowed City Works to begin placing program participants in jobs relevant to today’s market, jobs ranging from clerical to marketing to video production.

Candidates will be given access to job listings, employment workshops, and special training programs. Entrepreneurial assistance will also be available for those interested in pursuing self-employment. Bus tokens and childcare services are also available for specific programs.
